The South Coast Vizsla Club is a non-profit organization that operates under the rules and regulations set forth by the American Kennel Club. It was founded in 1976, and is devoted to furthering the pure-bred Vizsla. The club received AKC recognition in 1978. The founders consisted of a small, but devoted group of individuals. Located in Southern California.
Jo Rafter, one of the founding members and first President of the Club, was the heart and soul behind the founding of the SCVC and responsible for making sure it grew into the club it is today. When the club was starting out in 1977, she worked tirelessly to obtain AKC approvals to put on the club’s licensed field trials and specialty show. In 1985, after overcoming each of the obstacles that AKC put in the way, she proudly presided at our first Independent Specialty. She was a font of knowledge about her beloved Vizsla breed and was adamant in her work to protect the purity of the breed. In December 2007, she sponsored a luncheon to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the club’s founding. In later years, she was always a presence at and generous supporter of our Independent Specialty Show, and as recently as April 2014 sat ringside, clearly stating her opinion about the judging. Other members who joined the Club in the 1970’s include Jim & Chris Coman.
In addition to the two SCVC Specialty Shows, the club hosts many other events including agility trials and obedience/rally trials, hunting tests, and field trials. We have a training support system where our more experienced members help out the newcomers.
Please feel free to contact us for more information about activities as well as the Vizsla breed.
